About
Peter Ureste, MD, MACM is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he serves as Psychiatry Residency Program Director. A board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and clinician educator, Dr. Ureste completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago, psychiatry residency at the University of Southern California, and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He also holds a Master of Academic Medicine from the Keck School of Medicine at USC.
Dr. Ureste’s work focuses on improving mental health care for older adults with high disease risk and burden in the Inland Empire. His current RCMAR CHIME-supported project applies the Cultural Formulation Interview to better understand and address the mental health needs of older adults with depression and anxiety, integrating community-engaged methods to enhance cultural and clinical relevance. His broader scholarly interests include advancing health in geriatric psychiatry, developing trauma-informed educational curricula, and mentoring trainees in academic medicine.
