Dr. Max Jordan Nguemeni Tiako, MD, MS, is a board-certified general internist with special interests in pain and addiction medicine and primary care for individuals living with sickle cell disease. He graduated cum laude from the Yale School of Medicine in 2021 and completed his internal medicine and primary care residency at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2024.
Before entering medicine, Dr. Tiako earned a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Howard University (summa cum laude) and a master’s degree in bioengineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
During his training, he developed a commitment to caring for patients often underserved in the healthcare system - particularly those with substance use disorders and sickle cell disease. He provides comprehensive, patient-centered care with expertise in complex pain management across outpatient and inpatient settings. His practice emphasizes compassionate, preventive care, including reproductive health, contraception, and chronic disease management, to promote healthy aging.
A native French speaker with professional proficiency in Spanish, Dr. Tiako connects effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Outside of clinical practice, his research examines ways to improve care quality for racial and ethnic minorities and explores how healthy, natural, and built environments support longevity and well-being. He also teaches and mentors medical trainees and is dedicated to advancing diversity in the physician workforce.
