Dr. Max Jordan Nguemeni Tiako, MD, MS,  is an Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed his Internal Medicine - Primary Care residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and earned his MD (cum laude) from the Yale School of Medicine in 2021. Before entering medicine, he studied civil and environmental engineering at Howard University (BS ’13, summa cum laude) and bioengineering at Georgia Tech (MS ’15).

Dr. Tiako’s research explores how racism and structural inequities shape unequal health outcomes. His work examines racial disparities in pain management and opioid use disorder treatment, the influence of the built and natural environment on maternal health, and the impact of discrimination in medical training on the physician workforce. Clinically, his practice focuses on primary care for individuals with sickle cell disease, as well as pain and addiction medicine.
