Homero E. del Pino, PhD, MA, MSc, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. Dr. del Pino, a bilingual (Spanish-English) researcher, received a Doctorate of Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy in the UCLA School of Letters and Science and a Master of Science in Clinical Research degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. His primarly research interest is in the role that families play in a person's recovery process from substance abuse, particularly the recovery process of older gay Latinos.
2014-2015 Pilot Project, "Exploring the sexual risk behaviors of older HIV+ men who have sex with men." Dr. del Pino's RCMAR/CHIME- and UCLA CTSI-funded project is a description of how social support, patterns of alcohol and drug use and prevalence of sexual risk behaviors of older (>50 years old), HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MWM), and a comparison to older (>50 years old), HIV-positive MWM with two younger cohorts (30-39 years old and 40-49 years old) of HIV-positive MWM vis-à-vis social support, alcohol and drug use and sexual risk.
2012-2013 Pilot Project, "Exploring the social support of gay men in sobriety." Dr. del Pino's RCMAR/CHIME- and UCLA CTSI-funded project explored how social support and family dynamics helped/hindered gay Latino men's efforts to recover from alcohol dependence, and whether sexuality made a difference.
